Yahoo體育新聞和ESPN都引述消息來源，表示NBA勞資協議談判進行得很順利，總體營收和球員合約都大幅上漲，經濟情勢看好，2017年NBA賽季將不會遇上封館或罷工。
ESPN報導，幾周之內NBA勞資就會簽署新的協議，NBA賽季2017年不會停擺。舊版NBA勞資協議是在2011年簽訂，今年12月15日前，勞資雙方都可以選擇跳出合約，重議新的協議。
2011年因勞資談判陷入僵局，一直拖到2011年12月才達成新協議，導致球季縮水，每隊例行賽從82場縮減為66場，勞資雙方都蒙受不小損失；NBA正規賽季都是在10月底開打。
Yahoo體育指出，NBA理事長席佛（Adam Silver）和球員工會在勞資協議談判中取得良好進展，協商過程顯示，NBA正處於一個強大的經濟環境和市場中，勞資雙方都對現況和營收分配非常滿意。
